Everybody needs more storage space. It's a fact of life. Whether it's more closet space for your wardrobe, a bigger appartment because you want to have kids, or a big ass harddrive to store all your movies and music files on. I'm telling you, this is the ultimate portable storage drive for users with any kind of PC or laptop to connect it to.

The reason for this is the triple interface. It supports : USB 1.0, USB 2.0, Firewire 1394 (400) and Firewire 800 !! you can hook this puppy up to litterally just about anything. That is even including the N800 internet tablet from our other review ... which is really a sick thing to. Hooking up a drive that's physically larger then the device using it :) There are a lot of WD MyBook models in different sizes and with different interfaces, but the Pro is the elite of all harddrives.

Performance tests show this is currently the fastest external drive on the market, barring those that have 2 internal drives. LaCie and some other companies are marketing their 'super fast' drives as the next hot thing to get, but I advise strongly against them. They have 2 drives on the inside which means if ANY of those 2 drives fails, you loose ALL your data. Not a good thing, trust me on that one - get a single drive unit. The WD500 drive spins at a nice 7200 radiations per minute and it does get a little warm when it does this, but the casing has some spare space for airflow in there which works together with the openings on the side of the drive (which look rather accesorising).

If you are a Macbook Pro user, there are even more reasons for getting it ! Not only is the Macbook Pro one of the few machines currently on the market that comes with FireWire 800 by default, but it's also THE SAME COLOR ! Now isn't that cute ? Sounds unimportant to most normal PC users, but Maccies like their spiffy looks and this drive matches it perfectly. And last but not least, the blue led on the front .. 2 blue rings on the front indicate if the drive is connected, busy and even how much free space you have on there (a very rough indication of 1 circle representing 500GB of data).
