This is definitely the phone with the most stuff built in … ever !! Here’s a rundown of what’s inside this little puppy : Infrared, Bluetooth, Wireless networking (WiFi), GSM/GPRS/UMTS, GPS receiver, SD memory slot, QVGA screen, available in black and white models, running the operating system Windows Mobile 5. (An upgrade to 6 will be made available soon).

The device is shaped like your average pocket pc device, but it packs a lot more features because of the UMTS and WiFi , you will always have a fast internet connection on the device. If you have a flat fee UMTS subscription it will be interesting to install Skype on there. I have tried this merely as a test and it works fine. My phone bills are paid for by my boss so I don’t really care though. A point I would like to mention about using it as a phone is that dialing numbers is done on the touch screen which is not the most user friendly / usable method. Using your call history or contacts is reasonably fast but dialing a number is just slow and tedious. Of course you can use voice dialing which works pretty well.

The built in GPS and WiFi antennas seem to be a bit underpowered compared to other devices I’ve used. The GPS takes about 2 minutes to start up and get a fix on your position… this is a little above average and if the car is moving at that time, forget about it. I usually start the GPS just before we get in the car and while the driver gets ready you will get a position lock. TomTom 6 seems to be running just fine on the device, which is what you would expect from the 400Mhz processor in there.

The 400Mhz CPU also runs lots of other stuff just fine. I installed a lot of games on there that I used to run on my older Pocket PC device like Doom, Quake and Toki Tori. Even older games built for the previous versions of Smart phone OS seem to run fine on here, which is quite surprising as most of the times there are compatibility issues between OS versions in the Windows Mobile world.

All in all a very good device with tons of functionality built in. Perfect for on the move, but the phone feature could use some work… 8 out of 10 if you’re looking for a PDA device / 7 out of 10 for a phone.
